Chandra Namaskar: Yoga for the Full Moon

The moon is like an energy panel and the bigger and closer it shines on us, the greater the increase in the energy. But how is that energy traveling?

Imagine the sun energy as pressing onto your body like a mother hen injecting love and energy into your space and the moon energy is more about pulling energy out of you like a magnet. The "positive" energy of the sun reflects off of the moon creating a "negative" (think film negative) flow. The energetics increasing between our energy field and the moon is why so many of us find it hard to sleep during the full moon, find the energy has increased and of course the "lunacy" associated with the full moon....ahooooo!!!

The moons composition is very receptive to the solar energy of the sun, it acts as a sort of battery that transmits the solar energy through its reflective static field. Because of our electrical brains/nervous systems (and bones) we are perfect conduits and inevitably affected by these discharges or breaths of nature.

The moon consists of many elements but the greater percentage is oxygen (O), silicon (Si), iron (Fe), magnesium (Mg), calcium (Ca), aluminium (Al), manganese (Mn) and titanium (Ti), all of these awesome conductors of electricity. Where do we find iron en masse in greatest concentration on earth? In the middle of it! You can imagine what pressure that would place on all in the middle of this relationship. If you wanted to animate something it would be smart to place energetic receptors as the skeleton (nervous system) and control the inner electrical compulsion with a larger exterior conductor. It also serves as natures way of stirring things up in order for them to heat up and break down for release. This is also why we feel such a clearing once the energy passes.

The energetic field created during the full and supermoons can be great for creativity and increasing spiritual connection, as it stirs up and brings recessed capacity to the forefront, but it can also take a toll on the system. It can leave your soul feeling a little wind burned, depleted and raw, like driving down the freeway without a windshield. The initial reaction may be to increase activity to "burn off" the energy but slowing down and harnessing that energy rather than being provoked by it can be much more soothing and effective for restoration and rejuvenation.

I've put together a short beginner sequence for balancing the full moon energy and synching up with the internal force rather than being dragged around by it.

I also found a great article on the difference and benefits of sun salutations (surya namaskar) and moon salutations (chandra namaskar).

onto the practice and enjoy the full moon coming tomorrow :)
